ABO Incompatible Transplant Surgery

ABO Incompatible transplant is another way to achieve kidney transplant in a donor-recipient pair where the blood group is not matching. In this procedure the blood of the recipient cleansed of the anti blood group antibodies by special filters in a process called plasmapharesis, After the cleansing of antibodies a kidney is surgically placed so that the antibodies do not harm the new kidney. Such a transplant is a highly specialized transplant and require a multidesciplinary team approach.
